This is my first blog on the topic of personal finance management. Today, there are numerous experts and advisors in the digital world offering their precise advice on this topic through various channels like Social Media, Books, and Blogs etc. My objective is also align with them, is to promote financial literacy—especially among people who do not come from a finance background or whose professions are unrelated to finance.
Why is Financial Literacy Necessary?
It’s not just a requirement—it’s a necessity. Every individual must understand the fundamentals of
personal finance. Have you ever thought about why Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) winner Sushil Kumar eventually returned to teaching after facing financial setbacks? Search it on Google. Despite being a qualified government teacher and an expert in his field, he struggled to manage his wealth because he lacked knowledge of personal finance. Lean more about him.
Wealth isn’t just about money—it’s about mind-set and money management.
Why I’m committed to Increasing Financial Literacy
You might wonder why I am passionate about promoting financial literacy. Let me tell you a real-life incident. During an informal discussion in my office, a senior colleague from another department—someone well-paid and experienced—shared that he is 54 years old and nearing retirement. Shockingly, he admitted he has no visibility or plan for his post-retirement life. Worse still, he hasn’t made proper financial provisions for his daughter’s higher education.
When I asked more about his financial planning, I was shocked to hear his thought process. He believed in parking his money primarily in fixed deposits (FDs), gold jewelry, life insurance, and large real estate purchases—often by borrowing from banks.
Do you really think this is the best way to grow wealth and secure your future? Is it wise to approach retirement without a plan? Can you confidently secure your child’s education this way?
